How We Help
Volunteers of the pantry personally interview each person needing assistance to make sure they are aware of all other county agencies that may be of further assistance to their family. The individual is then given a month's supply of food for their family size, and clothing or household items (all free) if needed. They can come back once a month until their situation improves.
Laundry and personal care items are given out 4x a year. (food stamps cannot be used to purchase these items)
Special Programs
Least Of These administers the Countywide Christmas program insuring that hundreds of families have Christmas gifts for their children and enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner.
How It works – Families and seniors apply for assistance and give us a wish list of their needs for Christmas. Through an extensive program of food, clothing, and toy drives in the community, along with businesses, churches, classrooms and individuals “adopting” families and seniors, those in need are able to have a Christmas,
In 2009 the pantry helped 585 families, with 1126 children, have a Christmas they would not have been able to afford on their own.
Back to School Fair
This summer Least Of These, OACAC and the Christian County Salvation Army helped 371 students get outfitted for Back-To-School. Children in grades K-12 were given school supplies, two new outfits, socks, underwear, new shoes and backpacks. Scientific calculators were provided to junior high and high school students. This program has grown every year and the number of students helped this year was up over 50% from 2008.
