How We Help

Volunteers of the pantry personally interview each person needing assistance to make sure they are aware of all other county agencies that may be of further assistance to their family. The individual is then given a month's supply of food for their family size, and clothing or household items (all free) if needed. They can come back once a month until their situation improves.

Laundry and personal care items are given out 4x a year. (food stamps cannot be used to purchase these items)

Special Programs

  • We have a monthly class on couponing helping our families stretch their food budget.
  • A bi-monthly cooking class offers economical ways to prepare meals with the government commodities they receive.
  • Professional volunteers give one- on-one help with resumes and budgeting.
  • We have evening hours the first Wednesday of each month for working moms and dads.
  • Our mobile food pantry brings food to families in Chadwick and Oldfield once a month.
  • Thanksgiving food baskets with all the trimmings are distributed to all families that apply.
  • The Countywide Christmas program provides hundreds of families with Christmas gifts and a traditional Christmas dinner.
Christmas gifts for their children

Families with children, and seniors, apply for assistance and give us a wish list of their needs for Christmas. Through an extensive program of food, clothing, and toy drives in the community, along with businesses, churches, classrooms and individuals “adopting” families and seniors, those in need are able to have a Christmas.

In 2010 the pantry helped 650 families, with 1266 children and 116 seniors, receive toys, gifts and food baskets for a joyful Christmas.
